NexusDB WebScripts (Part 1) - Introduction
Welcome to the first in a series of guides to understanding WebScripts with NexusDB (of course based on my perspective).
For the uninitiated NexusDB is an database management system (DBMS) which progresses on from the likes of Paradox, where tables are stored in one (or more) files. |
What we will be focusing on in this series is the NexusDB server (nxServer) WebScript functionality. I will not cover ALL of the in's and out's of the nxServer as that will take far too much time. I will assume you have some knowledge on things like:
With an active nxServer running, enter the following in a web browser: localhost:10088
This will open the NexusDB Server Administration webpage.
Navigate to "AppServer - WebScripts". This section allows you to setup individual WebScript "sites". Each web script site has the following settings:
- How to setup and configure a NexusDB database
- Basic SQL commands
- Some understanding of Pascal/Delphi code
- Some basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript

To open each WebScript site, enter <localhost or IP address>:<port> where <port> corresponds to the site in a web browser e.g. localhost:8081
If you haven't guessed already, even the NexusDB Administration web page is a WebScript page, although quite a complex one. You can find the source for the Administration page in the <your nxServer.exe location>\AdminRoot\ folder
In this series I will be pulling specific functionality from it, explaining it in digestible pieces, and writing a demos which highlight the functionality.
TASK:
Create a location for testing your WebScripts and add it to the nxServer as a WebApp.
Once you're done witht that little task let's make a basic WebScript page! Proceed to part 2
